Adiva 250cc Convertible Scooter

Adiva just released a 250cc convertible scooter, a roofed scooter. This could be the answer for interested non-raider that always ask “what happens when it rains ?”, Adiva will answer it “You won’t get wet”. The foldaway roof stows in the top box compartment, probably taking a fair bit of luggage space with it, but then you can remove it entirely on nice days. The original patent design also shows some sort of bodywork extending a rail across the side of the bike to help deal with falls and side impacts, but it seems these haven?t made it to the roadgoing version.

Traveling with Your Bike ? Use Suitcase Bike

Story behind this suitcase bike from the designer Gosha Galitsky : Being a big bicycle enthusiast, it always bothered me to see how little cooperation exists between public transport and bicycles. It seems to be a perfect solution for commuting- an alliance between safe intercity transport (such as trains, buses and airplanes) and short-range non polluting bicycles which can zip you through the congested city like a breeze and park in your room or your cubicle at work. However, I only saw this harmony take place in some places in Europe (Italy is especially biker- friendly) and in some areas of the US, mostly on the west coast. All this in spite of rising awareness for environmental issues, growing congestion within city limits and an immense growth in the popularity of cycling for commuting as well as for sport. So I tried to find what was preventing this alliance from happening. After a certain observation and research, I discovered some interesting things. Read the rest of this entry »

Modern Urban Folding Bike

Genius is a modern urban folding bike, ideal for commuters who need to travel short distances of 10 to 20 minutes between underground stations, the workplace and the home. It still rolls when folded and can therefore be comfortably used even in large congested cities. The compact design of the Genius ensures unlimited mobility. It can be carried, rolled or ridden, and with its well-thought-out functional and ergonomic design and release mechanism it is easy to handle. The aerodynamic look of the Genius makes it clear that this is not a child?s bike. Its three gears provide the necessary speed, and the bike can be unfolded and refolded within three seconds thanks to a convenient kick-bar and push-down / pull-up handle system. Made of aluminium (80 per cent) and stainless steel (10 per cent) it is lightweight, stable and 90 per cent recyclable.

Futuristic Oryx Bike

Designed by a guy called Harald Cramer, it’s a custom-made time-trial cycle with all sorts of weird and wonderful innovations. The Y-frame shape means that the Oryx is shock-proof and keeps you in contact with the road at all time, and there is a one-sided fork and chain-stay. In time trial races, like the Contre la Montre at the Tour de France, every second counts, that?s why Oryx possesses an identical pair of wheels which can be removed by the push of a button.
