Seawater Vertical Farm in Dubai by StudioMobile

Studiomobile, an Italian architectural firm, have been working during the last couple of years in the United Arab Emirates and their most recent development is the concept seawater vertical farm. Their design, the Seawater Vertical farm utilizes seawater to keep cool and moisten greenhouses and to transform enough humidity back in to water to irrigate the plants. This project would be very much helpful where the supply of fresh water is limited and not much local cultivations are taking part. This project is very expensive but has been considered feasible because of the urban transport problem and the high soil value.

It addresses the issue of today’s time of renewed excitement about precision, efficiency and utilizing the summer resources thereby reducing the wastage applicable at the end of summer. The best part is that it can be set up anywhere and the basic shape is that of the cloud which can be the best source of shade on a sunny day. Air is used as the structural medium for inflating and suspending transparent volumes of lightweight fabric over the concrete and gravel courtyard. So get ready to have fun in the sun!

Waterflux by R&Sie(n)

The new art museum scheduled to be finished in 2009 has been inspired by nature and the way nature and its processes function. Designed by Paris based design firm R&Sie (n) architecture, even though on the first look, seems like an ice cavity but in fact it is carved out of wood and other eco friendly materials. Even the construction of this museum has been carefully planned so that the end result gives out an amorphous mix of structure which though looks disorderly but does have an identity of its own. It’s an interesting concept which inspires us to be responsible towards nature.

“Human Pump” : Using Kinetic Energy to Power the Water Pumps System

Are you aware that even your foot can be helpful in providing power to water pumps? The concept of “Human Pump” designed by an innovative designer named Gunwook Nam uses kinetic energy created by human foot traffic to power the system of water pumps. Different pumps are interlaced into an architectural construction which is used for main walking routes by people. When people walk, the structure would store the energy and further uses this energy to pump water to the surface. This concept promotes building with sustainable and reusable materials. Let’s see how far this design can be used in reality.
