Self Balancing Electric Unicycle Is Available for $2,700

Hammacher Schlemmer just got something new in its catalog, Self Balancing Electric Unicycle which you can actually buy. We’ve seen many concepts about unicycle but most of them are just concept or still at prototype stage, but if you are willing to spend $2,700, you can get a real one from Hammacher. It’s a cool briefcase-sized electric unicycle powered by 500-watt electric motor, perfect for 2 hours ride at 13 miles/hour after 3-hour battery charge (but it also depends on your weight). If you are not familiar with unicycle, it’s a vehicle that keeps the rider at perfect balanced at all times thanks to its gyroscopic sensors.

It’s a small vehicle, ideally for urban commuting and suburban recreation. Simply stand on the 2 feet pads and the gyroscopic sensors will detect your feet movements. It can support rider up to 250-pounds, grip the handlebar and lean forward to move or lean backward to slow down the unicycle and eventually stop, yes, just like Segway. The main motor is housed inside a sturdy ABS case, it spins the cycle’s single 16-inch diameter wheel which extends only 4-inch from the main case, so even when you wear leg pants, it won’t snag.

The Hybrid Bike by Hasan David Dal

The Hybrid bike was born out of the idea to create a lightweight and eco friendly vehicle. Instead of designing a car or motorbike, this designer came up with futuristic e-bike. Let’s read what the designer has to say about his unique concept bike.

When I started the project, I did not know, that this will be outcome. Oh and the word project is inappropriate here, because projects are planned. Usually. Only one thing was clear: my intention was to make a vehicle with wheels. I had in my mind, that it should be light, and environmentally friendly. As the shapes continued to evolve from simple geometry, the final image became clear. A well-known bicycle type from earlier ages, in a new form. That is why called “The Hybrid”. The name lacks of fantasy maybe. It’s rather a codename. But it is an amalgamation of an old form with streamlined materials (light metal, carbon – fiber and plastic) and an engine yet to be invented. You see, I’ve never thought of a practical use of this one. Form and function are distant relatives in the case of this design, I think.

If you try to ride, you need a long neck to see what is in front of you…or sensors built at the front that work on collision detection. It does not have stands, because it has an anti-gravity field generator, which works non-stop, providing balance at all times. When the bike is stopped, it switches into standby mode, keeping the machine in vertical position, by using a minimum amount of energy.

Hyundai Aebulle : A Cocooned Motorcycle Designer For Los Angeles Commuters

This is a very interesting concept created especially for the Los Angeles region, where it would utilize commuter lanes and allow the passengers of the Aebulle to make a quick commute. The designer, Shane Baxley, has inspired from the European Peacock Butterfly cocoon, when he created the concept. Aebulle stands for cocoon in Korean. The idea was to design a motorcycle while offering the safety a cocoon offers a butterfly. The suspension acts in a similar manner to the Dodge Tomahawk as it leans in turns. The front wheels are on separate independent swing arms which allow this leaning to take place. The Aebulle is made up of a magnesium frame which wraps around the driver as well as an aluminium oxynitride glass that acts as the frontal cockpit area.

This glass has embedded an E-ink which offers a new way of allowing the user control over his/her radio, GPS and other similar functions. These controls can be modified by the user to fit their individual needs. Inside the Aebulle the seating position is fixed so the gas and brake pedals hang from the steering column and adjust to the drivers position. Upon entering and exiting the vehicle the center steering column lifts upward with the glass cockpit to provide the user room for entry. The concept is powered by lithium batteries stored in the floor board of the vehicle which power small electric motors inside each wheel. The Aebulle continues Hyundai’s strategy with the Genesis by not making their logo apparent on the exterior of the vehicle but present on the center of the steering wheel.

Multi Mode Vehicle : You Can Turn Your Motorbike to Aircraft

Multi Mode Vehicles or MMVs are an effort of Samson Motorworks to overcome the car’s inability to fly, and considering the aerodynamic and weight related issues of 4-wheel vehicles, they have embarked on an assignment to develop a flying 3-wheel motorcycle. Two models of duel-use MMVs are under development, first one is Skybike with a patent telescoping wing and the other one is the Switchblade that utilizes a scissors wing design and can retract the wings when you are riding in the freeway.

Although both the MMVs are light and small, they can attain a maximum altitude of around 10,000 foot above sea level. The overall size and strong structure around the riders ensures passenger safety and can be spotted easily by other vehicles in traffic. The front shock absorber, a side door protection and ballistic shaft recovery system are few safety features of these three-wheelers. Both models include air conditioning and heating, rear view video monitor, automatic vehicle leaning, dual lighting system for ground and air, and stereo MP3 input CD player.
