Matani Eco Car Concept for Rural Sub-Saharan Africa

Matani is an eco vehicle dedicated to operate on rural Sub-Saharan Africa. This project won the Best Eco Interior of the Car Design Awards Global 2015 competition. This project main goal is to open new prospect of design field in the third world countries, creating a system that brings wildland designs to a new era by not only creating a masterpiece but also a practical infrastructure. The design team was sent to Africa voluntarily where they could do extensive researches and communicate with actual users. Equipped with 3D printer to create any necessary structure, engine, and batteries, the team has come up a smart mobility solution.

Matani means friend in African language, it’s designed to be great companion for its user. This project allows a user to design and develop their own vehicle to meet the structure of certain areas. It uses native’s fabric or animals leather to cover the roof, it creates a nice shade where passengers can rest under it comfortably. The roof of the car can be used to produce water, it liquefies air through mesh net structure when daily temperature range is extremely high, it is able to make 100liter of water per day.
