Just because the world MAY* end someday in the very distant future, doesn't mean people should stop trying to improve life in the present, and possibly find other planets to call home if ours ever gets our of hand or too overpopulated. Also, our world may not be "perfect", but why, WHY, would people not try to make it a better place to live? Wouldn't you like to live out the rest of your life in a better society? Scientists help society by generating ideas and helping humankind progress, and there's nothing wrong with that. The above comment should be deleted just on the mere fact that it’s idiotic in nature.
