DTool for Better Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Practices

Dualtool (Dtool) was a concept developed for “RedDot Concept Award”. Minimally Invasive Surgery is a surgery practice that provide less post operation pain, less recovery time and less risk to infection than conventional open surgery, also a considerable reduction of trauma to the patient’s body.

The problem in this practice is for the surgeon, it should do some concessions as more effort, concentration, and greater mental stress. One of the mainly causes is the laparoscopic tools, this instrument is designed only with a single function and is continually exchanged during the surgery. This instrument exchanges comprise 10% to 30% of the total time of the intervention, increasing the surgeon fatigue, and compromising patient’s safety.

Dtool tries to help surgeons during MIS practices allowing the surgeons change the tool functions without taking out the tool.
