Submitted by Ufuk Seçgel, Chela is a heavy duty concept vehicle for forestry industry. You can read his explanation below.
Chela is a remote controlled heavy duty vehicle designed with the aim to increase safety in the industry of forestry. It is specialized for transporting manually felled trees on steep slopes and other hazardous terrains, where it is dangerous for manned vehicles to work. Chela can do this transportation in three ways: with its grabbers, telescopic arm or carrying it on its front with its compact dump bed.
The grabbers are attached to a screw like tightener which starts its revolution with the help of a hydraulic motor and a worm gear thus bringing the grabbers together. Any tree logs under the body of the
vehicle will be grabbed tightly with the force of hydraulics.

The telescopic arm is attached to the top of the vehicle. This assembly point is hidden by a hatch which can be opened to the side. It enables the vehicle to transport and stack tree logs in small
warehouses and makes it easier for the vehicle to grab logs from hard to reach places on the terrain.
The hatch on the front opens to the sides to reveal a dump bed. This dump bed enables the vehicle to carry logs of up to 2 meters on its front. To lift the object and pass over obstacles the vehicle has 2 sets of hydraulic cylinders on it’s sides. The cylinders apply force to the tracks thus lifting the body and it’s attachments. The arms connected to the body and the tracks assures a stable elevation.
