Zaha Hadid Architects just finished the design of Changsha Meixihu International Culture & Arts Center, China. It’s an ambitious project to build Grand Theater which will become the largest venue in the city with capacity of 1800 seats. This building complex will host world-standard performance therefore it is completed with VIP hospitality as well such as: bars, restaurants, lobbies, cloakrooms, including supplementary area such as rehearsal rooms, backstage logistics, make-up rooms, and wardrobe.

As usual, you can plainly see the characteristic of Zaha Hadid through extreme curves and flows, it radiates beautifully through 3 main structures which are linked by pedestrian landscapes. Beautiful outward views and balconies at its exteriors aim to engage this site’s unique location and surrounding views into some of its gallery spaces. There’s an external plaza faces Meixi Lake Road which can be used for exhibitions, outdoor sculptures, or any other events.

The Multipurpose hall or a small theater is characterized by its flexibility, it can be adapted and transformed to variety configurations as needed. This hall can accommodate up to 500 seats, ideally for hosting fashion shows, small events, or small concerts. To ensure continuity, working hours of different venues are overlapping with each other during 24 hour cycle for example the Museum is closed in the afternoon while the Grand Theater has just become active, the small theater is available during day and night. This means that all commercial tenants will benefit from each other’s neighborhood, thus, making sure the site is lively 24 hours a day.
