MKS-1 SLS Multifunctional Space Launch System, just like its name suggests, it can be used to launch wide variety space rockets. You probably can guess the designer behind this project, yes, the one and only, our friend, Oscar Viñals. You can read his explanations about his latest project below:

Currently/Today, the only way that we know to launch Vehicles or “payload” into Space or at Low earth orbit (suborbital), is using a Rocket which takes off from land place and reaches the pre-selected “objective”. Depending on their “payload” specifications, it is necessary to use a Rocket with special size and features.

The MKS-1 SLS is a concept plane with multifunctional uses, designed like a “Launch-Support” for many different Space Rockets or Special Space & Suborbital vehicles; thought to reach their objectives, decreasing today’s costs for launching into Space, these “payloads” with smaller Rockets and lesser fuel, and minimizing the non-reusable parts.

Versatile, adaptable for special Ovi’s rocket (equipped with supersonic wings, all controlled by Intelligent Flight Control System (IFCS)) with NASA’s CM (Crew Module), NASA’s Ares I evo rocket (with “special wings”), ESA’s Vega evo rocket (with “special wings”), NASA’s X-43a experimental vehicle with “special rocket”, Aurora SR-91 experimental vehicle, REL’s (Reactions Engines Limited) Skylon experimental vehicle, XLDron M Gravity mass Space Tourism and more potentials “payloads”.

Designer : Oscar Viñals

It would have a high carry up capacity and thanks to a special support system with configurable anchorages, over guide rails on top of the fuselage, adaptable for many different types of “payloads”. Built with ultra-resistant advanced Composite materials (carbon laminate, carbon sandwich, activated carbon, aluminum, titanium, and more…) capable to resist big fatigue, stress and “mechanic efforts”; all of this with a low density and in some sections from the plane these would have the extra-capacity to resist highest temperatures.

The MKS-1 SLS would have an auto-generator electric energy system from heat energy conversion and from combustion of liquefied natural gas (LNG) -also used for turbofan engines mixed with conventional combustible-; to keep the avionic systems and the rocket’s combustible temperature in optimal conditions. It also would have a Hyper lift mechanical system -HLMS- to create a dynamic air flow controlled by fly-by-wire system (FBW) and aircraft-computers to prevent a possible stall situation.

Equipped with 11 future Next-Gen’s plane engines, 8 ultra high bypass turbofan engines -UHB- localized on the wings structure in double units (B-52 Stratofortress) and 3 engines with adaptive versatile engine technology -ADVENT-localized under fuselage structure in central disposition, used only at takeoff maneuver and in the “detaching phase” like an extra-thrust to reach the right altitude (45,000-50,000 ft).

Jet Drone small aircraft concept has been designed to act as a support vehicle in outer space missions, or in recognition operations. In order to move, it is equipped by two reactors: one that allows horizontal progression and a couple of smaller reactors for vertical movement. It is made from different kind of lightweight plastic materials, the wing can be transformed to become a dock stand when in “land mode” and stretched back again when in “flight mode”.

Jet Drone spacecraft would be able to do most of the missions without a pilot, however there is a cabin designed to host a person. It could be used for missions such as: rescue an abandoned astronaut, or as a similar way to a lifeboat, just in case the main spaceship encounters some issues.

We start this year by featuring a new concept from Oscar Viñals, which we’re pretty sure you would already guess, yes, it’s about Future space tourism. You can read further about this project from Oscar description below.

A few years ago to talk about -Space Tourism- was part of Science Fiction. The possibility to “reach” the border between Earth and Space for merely “Adventurers” who are looking for new sensations, people who are not strictly professionals Astronauts; is now, because they have a feasible possibility to do it, thanks to private Space Projects. The new technologies and development of new materials -for example-, make this possible with greater efficiency and reducing expenses.

XLDron “M” Gravity
This is a concept of future’s Space Tourism Crafts, thought and designed so that, in a not too distant future, potentials “Space Tourists” will see their dream fulfilled: to “reach” the “outer space” in an awesome trip.

The XLDron “M” Gravity, would consist of two independent vehicles; an unmanned aircraft named XLDron (like a “shuttle”), that carries a rocket-plane docked, named “M” Gravity (The “M” Gravity could carry 4 crew members and 10 Space Tourists).

The XLDron unmanned aircraft, would be like a “Sky Surfboard”, equipped with three turbojet engines and a structure of resistant composite materials of ultra-low density, capable of carrying up with the “M” Gravity or “Space Surfer” at an altitude of 65,000 ft. and reaching a speed of Mach 1,2; in this phase the two vehicles are detached, the “M” Gravity ignites its rocket’s engine until reaches an altitude of 100km. (Micro-g environment), remaining a few minutes experimenting Zero-G sensations, and then… returning to base in a glider flight.

The OxiVolare Pulse Oximeter is a portable device that monitors the percentage of oxygen (Sp02) in a pilot’s blood stream. It is specifically designed to be used by pilots who fly at high altitudes in unpressurized cockpits. This device is necessary because it informs the pilot when they need to switch to an alternate form of oxygen. Without it, a pilot’s oxygen levels could drop dangerously low, (below 95% Sp02) and they can become hypoxic which will lead to dizziness, loss of consciousness and eventually death. Any errors caused by the symptoms of hypoxia can be fatal while flying. Since a pilot has to monitor and change variety of instruments in the cockpit -including the yoke to steer the aircraft- a pulse oximeter must not get in the way of their normal routine.

Designer : Kristine Vodon

Pilots fingertips are essential to all the fine knobs, buttons and switches they must use in every flight. Covering the end of even one fingertip can be so distracting a pilot would rather fly without their pulse oximeter. A design that allows pilots to look stylish, while maintaining their usual flying routine is essential to making this device more likely to be used.

OxiVolare Pulse Oximeter concept has been designed to meet 5 main design criteria:

Leave pilots finger tips free to use controls

Be easy to read while holding the yoke

Be easy to adjust and put on with one hand

Have a visual alarm that notifies pilots of low Sp02 levels

Be worn with or with out gloves

Our friend Oscar Viñals has sent us his latest space tourism project, SXT-A Iron Speed. Let’s hear what he says about this project.

Thanks to technical and technological progress, talk about Space Tourism, Suborbital trips or trip to the Moon, is not an impossible journey today. In the XXI century we think about futures achievements as, human missions on Mars, travel “regular” to the orbit of the Moon and Tourist trips to the frontier to space, available to ordinary people even with minimum income standard, it would be just like simple personal adventures.

The SXT-A Iron Speed (Space XL Transporter – Advanced) aircraft concept combines three types of propulsion engines in various stages to connect two different locations just like any commercial flight, but with the difference is that with the SXT-A Iron Speed, the passengers or “Space Tourists” could experience a supersonic cruise speed at Mach2, a maximum Hypersonic speed at Mach6 and stay for a few minutes at the border to space at 100km of altitude.

Designer : Oscar Viñals

The SXT-A Iron Speed would be equipped with two modern Low-bypass turbofan Jet engines with afterburning, Hybrid Rocket engine and an engine based on Scramjet System. It would have a mixture of composites and aluminum fuselage’s materials with thermal protections, with “hot/warm” metallic primary structure and hot metallic leading edges. There’s a parachute to slow the aircraft in the landing maneuver, an “eject able cone” to protect the rocket engine, nozzles with chevron shaped sections to reduce noise and redirect exhaust gases. Thermoelectric system which is capable of converting heat exhaust flow ejected by the jet engines into electricity for systems and sub-systems, also equipped with a system of air refueling in the front of the aircraft, three ejectable “emergency capsules” (2 on top and 1 under/right side). It would have the ability to transport 5 crew members and 15 passengers or “Space tourists”.

The 80% of the structure of the SXT-A “Iron Speed” consists of three types of propulsion systems and different tanks fuel, the remaining 20% (front section of the aircraft) would host the crew members and passengers and the two elevators or “Space Balconies” that would be deployed at 100km. of altitude, giving to the crew the sensation of “being out” of the aircraft, in space.

The Trip:
The SXT-A Iron Speed, take off from an international airport (New York, Paris, Sydney, Hong Kong…), on a track with “special” specifications, but like an any commercial Jetliner. In the first phase, would reach an altitude of 65,000 ft. at Mach 2 speed, in the second phase the “protector cone” of the rocket would be ejected and redirected by 2 mini boosters (water landing with an integrated parachute and then being recovered), in this stage the Rocket engine turns on until it reaches a height of 100km. In the third phase, while the aircraft descends, the rocket engine is turned on a few seconds to speed-up at Mach 4 speed and then Scramjet system starts up at an altitude of 120,000 ft. accelerating to Mach 6 speed and decelerating when the aircraft is near its destination to change at jet propulsion engine, and landing like any commercial Jetliner.

How many of us have ever watched the moon from the comfort of our home, in the darkness of the mountain, from an astronomical observatory or from anywhere else?

Can you imagine what it feels like to be one of luckiest humans that is given an opportunity to actually “walk” on the moon? The XLDron MW Moon Tourism space station together with the XLDron Global Versatile Advanced (XGV-A) and rocket “Orbiter”… are Oscar Vinals, an industrial designer, personal view of a “Moon trip” in the future where we can “walk” on the moon just like tourists.

In a very near future, thanks to rapid and continuing advance of the aerospace industry and private initiative in this sector, we could start walking on the moon as privileged tourists and become part of the history’s elite of the space travelers.

In the beginning, only freaking rich people could enjoy this space tourism, because a “ticket” to the lunar surface would be around a $150,000,000 to $200,000,000, but who knows … somewhere not so far from now and thanks to technical and scientific development, the ticket price would be within the reach of many more people.

Designer : Oscar Viñals

The capsules and rover-satellite are launched into space with the XLDron Global Versatile Advanced (XGV-A) and the rocket “Orbiter”. The aircraft “launcher”, XGV-A is a giant unmanned aircraft with two giant wings and rear extra-flaps, these will have a big wing area; equipped with 5 oversized Ultra-High Bypass turbofan engines, producing a big powerful thrust range.

The central UHB turbofan will only work with maximum performance at the take-off stage and to reach the maximum height for the “drop rocket stage”. This aircraft would have a rear landing gear with adjustable height, depending on, if goes loaded (rocket) or empty, and could be equipped with a Hyper Lift Mechanical System (HLMS) integrated with the wings to keep the aircraft with the best conditions of CL (Lift Coefficient) in all situations, capable of carrying up a large rocket to an altitude of 50,000 ft. and a max. payload of 330,693 lb, launching into the space the capsules and rover-satellite.

Moon Window space station would be a “little” permanent space station, located in a fixed orbit around The Moon, with the ability to host 7 passengers during short periods of time (from 1 week up to 2 weeks), or 3 passengers during longer stays.

Moon Window space station serves as a platform or base for launching manned explorers (conqueror capsule), to the surface of the moon and a privileged observatory of the Moon through the “MW cupola”.

The MW space station consist of:

1 “Nomadic” capsule that would carry the crew

1 rocket engine “Zeus” capsule

2 explorers “Conqueror” capsules – (1 as a rescue capsule) and 1 support “Peregrine” rover-satellite – working on lunar surface and orbiting around it.

There are 2 main modules: the “Energy” that would keep “MW & Zeus” combustible material and “Zeus” rocket engine that provide a lab area, storage for scientific material and 2 exits to outer station. The other module would be the “Moon Window” where basically the crew members would live and have an observatory “cupola”, with magnificent views of the moon.

When it’s launched for the first time, the MW space station would move from Earth to a fixed orbit around The Moon in a “complete-unit” (all capsules, rover and modules), but in the following space trips, only the “Zeus” capsule and “Nomadic” would travel from Earth to The Moon and back. The modules would be sent into space on 2 stages by 2 rockets of high load capacity and the capsules and rover-satellite would be sent into space by the unmanned aircraft XLDron Global Versatile Advanced “XGV-A” and its rocket “Orbiter”.

We just got awesome design submission, AvA03 Resistance Concept Jet by Timon Sager. It’s a vision of future private jet that can be used at any moment simply to fulfill humankind’s great desire to fly. This super jet has been designed to reach unimaginable heights and places you’ve always wanted to see, just name it, this jet will take you there in no time. People by nature are curious and driven by their emotions will trigger the creation of a new form of transport. The VTOL-LENR-Jet-engine was inspired by the newest publication of NASA Langley Research Center. Chief Scientist Dennis Bushnell mentioned the possibly of hyper sonic transports (next generation airliners) and neighbor-friendly personal fly-drive air vehicles(flying cars) powered by LENR(cold fusion).

XGV or XLDron Global Versatile is a giant unmanned aircraft for space development. This could be our future generation or future technology of space rockets or space launcher aircrafts. With respect to environment, this aircraft will be engineered and developed by practicing low-cost production and increasing its efficiency so that it can be used more often in a wide variety of industries.

XLDron Global Versatile features wingspan approx. of 80m and a wing area of approx. 740 square meters thank you to its rear “extra-flaps” and its two giant wings. It is equipped with 5 oversized Ultra High Bypass turbofans which can use a mixture 70%-30% of Biofuel & Conventional Fuel (next generation of turbofan engines), producing a powerful thrust range of 220-313Kn. The central U.H.B. (Ultra-high Bypass) turbofan will work with maximum performance at take-off stage to reach the maximum altitude for “detaching rocket stage”. After the rocket is launched, the giant unmanned aircraft would prepare its rear landing gear.

How many people have dreamed of being astronauts and do a space trip? Having unforgettable adventures surrounded by infinite space realizing that we become one with the immensity of the Universe.

The future development of space travel and make it more accessible to a lot of people could be the first step in order to offer breath taking experience like that. Now the exploration of the Universe depends less on geo-strategic plans than in front of the business interests that will place the aerospace industry in one of very important positions in the global economy.

Today it is actually possible to do space travel for special people (special as in rich people), thanks to Space Tourism program. The possibility to change this amazing journey into longer in time and a greater distance from the earth starts now. Soon, we could see the possibility of building all infrastructures for a Space Hotel to a Space Resort or even Space Stations.

XLDron Versatile Earth Window (EW) from this talented industrial designer tries to give you a vision of our future space tourism.

Designer : Oscar Viñals

Text from the designer:

XLDron Versatile Earth Window (EW) is a concept of what future hotel-resort could be and the spacecraft vehicle to do the transport between land base and space infrastructure.

The “Earth Window” Space Hotel project consists of two phases:

Start-orbit of the modules that compose the infrastructure of “Earth Window” by “Ariane” or “Atlas V” rocket launches in four times, because the size and weight of these modules need the capacity to carry of a big rocket. After that, the next action would be module-assembling and commissioning of all systems in order to receive the first arrival of a capsule, launched by the XLDron Versatile, with astronauts to complete the construction phase of the Space Hotel.

The vehicle, that would link between land based and EW Space Hotel has a construction based on the concept XLDron, unmanned aircraft, but with bigger size.

Equipped with three ultra high bypass turbofan engines that use mixture of Biofuel and conventional fuel with a maximum takeoff weight of 85 tons, this vehicle would carry a rocket to an altitude of more than 40,000 ft., where it’s detached.

The rocket starts the three engines and would consist of three stages combined between solid and liquid rocket, capable of putting into LEO, MEO and HEO orbits a mass of two tons approximately of payload.

The rocket would have different configurations, combining four types of capsules:

Astronauts Capsule: It could take 5 “Spassengers” (space Passengers) and a small amount of basic material.

Supplies Capsule: might carry all kinds of supplies for the Space Hotel. And it would serve as auxiliary emergency capsule.

Energy Capsule: it could replenish EW Space Hotel fuel and basic materials such as oxygen, hydrogen, etc.

Satellite Capsule: could put satellites into orbit of medium size. Or even send “small” vehicle “explorers” to other planets.
