C-Leg, Leg Prosthesis from Otto Bock

Until recently prostheses could only be matched roughly to the wearer ? if the proportions and measurements seemed to fit, the aid was considered suitable for that person?s future life. Over the last couple of decades design has helped create an entirely new awareness, and modern prostheses are sophisticated high-tech products that facilitate both mobility and a self-determined life. Natural movements are imitated with the help of intelligent technology, movements that get very close to those of the human leg. However, since prostheses will always remain something artificial to their wearer, it is equally important from a holistic point of view to also address the aesthetic needs of people who have lost a limb.

c-leg, otto bock, leg prosthesis

The C-Leg is an innovative, completely microprocessor-controlled leg prosthesis system that helps people who have undergone transfemoral amputation to achieve a new degree of safety and dynamics. The new C-Leg has been upgraded and expanded with many innovative features. It combines both years of experience and the intelligent use of modern technologies with a clear design of elegant appearance. The C-Leg features a wireless remote control that lets users easily switch between different settings, e.g. for walking, bicycling or inline-skating, as well as make individual fine adjustments to the hydraulic system. No matter at what speed and on what ground the user is walking, the C-Leg reacts in real time to the gait circumstances, ensuring not only natural movements but also offering a high amount of mobility and independence with every step. With its aesthetic and clear language of form, the C-Leg contributes to the well being of its wearers ? thus allowing them to bear their disability with greater self-confidence.

  1. I am selling this for $9,499.99. I have this up on eBay. You can check it out here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp

This is a left knee and leg prosthesis. It belonged to my Mother-In-Law, who never wore it.
The fitting was never complete on it, so it should be very easy to have it fit to you.
The only information I have is what I researched and I will include as much as I can.

This is a C-Leg 3C88 and includes the charger and a car charger.
When fully charged the battery lasts 5 hours.
This leg has a cosmetic cover on it.

The Mobility Grade is a 3 and 4.

    Mobility Grade 3:
    Unrestricted outdoor walkers
Unrestricted outdoor walkers have the ability or potential to move
with prosthesis with variable cadence while simultaneously mastering
most obstacles. They also have the ability to move in wild terrain
and can carry out career-related, therapeutic and other activities
that do not place above-average demands on the prosthesis.
Unrestricted outdoor walkers may also have an increased need for
security due to secondary conditions (additional handicaps, special
living circumstances) in connection with medium to high mobility
activities. The distance and length of time they can walk do not
differ signifi cantly from non-impaired, healthy individuals.
Therapy goal: Restoration of the amputee’s ability to walk and
move without any limitations indoors and with only nonessential
    limitations outdoors.

    Mobility Grade 4:
Unrestricted outdoor walkers with especially rigorous
    demands
Unrestricted outdoor walkers with especially rigorous demands have
the same ability or potential as unrestricted outdoor walkers. Their
walking distance and duration are not limited. However, due to
their rigorous functional demands, their prostheses need to sustain
a high degree of shock, tension, and torsion.
Therapy goal: Restoration of the amputee’s ability to stand, walk,
and move both indoors and outdoors without any limitations.

The C-leg is recommended for lower limb amputees under 220 pounds who have a moderate or higher functional level. The knee works on a lithium battery that lasts 25 to 30 hours.

The C-leg is slightly more expensive than a more traditional prosthetic. It ranges in price from upper $30,000 to lower $40,000 dependent on the socket and the foot put with the leg.

The foot is a Pedilan 0096
It is lightweight and has dampened plantar flexion.

  15. The only problem with the c-leg is the price. Very few people can pay for a c-leg.

I'm about to amputate above the knee. Too bad I won't be able to get a c-leg… from what I've seen, it's awesome.

Can anyone tell me if with a c-leg you can climb stairs like a normal person? For someone above the knee.

Puno bi mi znacilo ako imas nekih informacija i ako bi stupio u kontakt s tobom.
      Unapred hvala!

  21. The C-Leg is an awesome piece of technology. I've been using one since 2007 and will be receiving the new one when they get them at Walter Reed. I was injured in 2006 in Iraq and am currently at Walter Reed. I've tried every Above Knee leg on the market and none can compare to the C Leg. Walking downhill, down stairs, rough terrain or just my daily run of the mill mall or out doors stuff the leg has no problems keeping up with me.

  22. I have been an amputee for over 5 years, and I have been working with the same company (different locations) to try and use the c-leg, but no one can make me a prosthesis to walk-in. I have been trying to use the same one (with adjustments) for 5 years and have never walked in it. I was recentely told that I needed a new prosthesis. I had to pay $8,000 up front in order to get one (from the same company I have been working with for 5 years), and since I don’t have $8,000, I can’t have a prosthesis. I would like to tell you that the C-leg is wonderful, but it has not worked one minute for me. The company can’t provide anyone who has experience with my level of amputation, and my insurance company won’t let me go anywhere else. Sure wish I had been in the military…….wouldn’t have this problem then!!!

  23. im like sabrina i have been trying with the same leg for almost 2 years and still have not got to walking. left leg aka ang right leg reconstructed bad right knee wish i could get one of thouse c-legs i get ssd and they say i make to much to qualify for insurace i lost my leg 1/28/08 and have had no insurance since what a wounderfull world we live in .

  24. its been a year for my a k and i love its i can do stairs and walk down big hills and trails unlike i could before its amazing very good price for the unit hanger fixed me up with mine in florence ala they are great at ajusting mine im greatful i got mine would suggest any one that wants to get around get one

  25. I was lucky enought to get a first generation C-Leg almost 11 years ago to the date, was one of 50 or so to get one early on. There is such an improvement in gait, there is little 'learning curve'. Up stairs is not it's strong point, but downstairs is foot over foot like no other knee. Very fast and responsive.

Uneven terrain and ramps is also incredibly easy with the C-Leg

I am in my second one. Supposedly has better processors, servos, overall construction. Its horrible that I had to fight with my insurance carrier, at the time, to get it, and i feel for the people that want one and cant afford one. I really do.

There is a weight limit..and if recall it was 240-250.

Ask me anything, i may be able to help.

I do have the older one, but is in need of wear item work..and waiting to hear back from otto bock if they can fix it. It's not that its broken, its just in need of maintenance/teardown.

    • Hey Joel, whats up? I am a left leg above the knee for about three weeks now and have been checking out the internet about leg replacements. The C-leg seems the way to go but I have some questions for you. I have heard 30,000 for a C- leg and I can't understand what holds the leg on to the stub. I was very active before the accident and plan to remain the same if possible. I do a lot of Bass fishing, four wheeling and just hanging out in the woods with my three son's. This leg thing really has me worried though.

    • Gday Joel i'm Darren in australia, i'm a bilateral above knee amputee, and my insurance wont pay for c legs. How much you asking for the old leg?

  26. 5 years ago both of my legs were amputated at the level of the hip. Do you think it would be useful to buy C-leg for both of my legs?

Would you recommend me a hospital or a center where I may get a competent advise and help in obtaining this leg?

Would you, please, tell me which may be the approximate price of one leg?

Thank you in advance and Happy New Year!

  27. My brother had an accident and had his right leg amputated above the knee.Through the search in the internet I saw this c-leg, could you please let me know the price of it and how long it will take to fix the leg if I decide to visit your company .

    Regards,

    Godwin

  28. Will you plaese let me know the approximate cost for an above the knee amputee?

Is this availble in Sri Lanka or India?

  29. hi…i would like to ask how can i get a c-leg?…i am here in the philippines…do you have any distributors here?…pls email me any of your answers…tnx…hoping you to have any concerns about my problem…god bless!

  30. Hello, do you know how much does it costs a helix3D and C leg? My dad will have a surgery that need to ampute his left leg above the knee… only will left half of his femur. I live in Monterrey Mexico, Does anyone knows where to find one?

    Thanks

  31. My dad was hit by an 18 wheeler 1/08/08 and his left arm is fused so he cant bend it. His leg was also amputated above the knee. His femur is only a few inches long. He has been through the c-leg and reno knee and 4 or 5 different sockets and none have worked out. We have been to several prosthesis places and they cant get it right. I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I live in Columbus Georgia and go to Northside High School.
