Ankida Yacht by Lila-Lou

The Ankida Yacht concept was developed aiming to move away from the conventional center-line arrangement by integrating the mast, keel and sail configuration with the hull naturally. The bow like arrangement of the vessel allows effective propulsion through the rig generated force. The sail layout and its operation have been designed to cover the surface area and best possible positioning to the wind condition and direction. Moreover, enhanced performance has been ensured by automatically adjusting the keel bulb to optimize the center of mass. The design relies greatly on the fully automatic operation mechanism; therefore a magnetically levitated turbine has been placed between the masts to provide power for the entire system which makes Ankida a unique and efficient wind powered vessel.

Each port, mast and starboard is running parallel, rather shadowing one another, which enhances the sail efficiency by covering maximum area. When the yacht is not with the sail, the booms remain joined with the aft and allow the sail to furl automatically in the line of the straight mast. Ankida can run under one sail too, therefore, the option of additional sails offer flexibility of pleasant cruising.

Futuristic RollTop Foldable Notebook with 17-inch OLED Display and Full Fledged Keyboard

The RollTop is a flexible notebook concept that can be folded like a roll of paper allowing the user ultimate convenience of carrying and storing it even in a congested place. It features a 17” flat-screen OLED display when fully rolled out with the multi-touch facility that will offer the ease and functionality of that of an iPhone. Also, when required, it can be folded into a 13” smart tablet pc. Aside from the touch-screen controlling, it features full fledged keyboard like conventional notebooks with which convenient typing can be performed. When folded, this compact notebook takes the size of a water carrier and can easily be hanged over the shoulder with a hanging belt.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 with 8.1 Megapixel Camera is Lighter Than X1

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 with its 3.2” touchscreen has been officially unveiled after its sleek-looking predecessor X1. If you consider dimensions, the latest X2 is close to its previous version; however, it’s lighter than the X1. The X2 features a redesigned keypad just like that of a netbook and reveals by sliding out the upper portion. The 8.1 megapixel camera is one of the major upgrades of X2. Switchital Clock Design with Unique Time Changing Manner

The Switchital Clock features a digital screen where letters for showing timing are formed with small metal bars attached to the surface with small magnets underneath. The clock shows only hour and minute, it doesn’t show seconds because of its unique time changing manner. When a minute is over, the individual pats start to move, some gets disappeared and then integrates in a specific place that is required to show the next minute. This movement is done by the magnets that starts pulling the bars to the next position where the need to be placed to show the next minute.

Le Petit Prince Intelligent Robot for Expanding Population in Mars

Le Petit Prince or Little Prince is a robotic greenhouse concept that is specially designed to help the future exploration and expanding population in the Mars. This intelligent robot can carry and take well care of a plant inside its glass container, which is functionally mounted on its four-legged pod. The robot is designed to learn the optimal process of searching for nutrients in order to keep the plant in a good condition. Moreover, it can send reports of its movements and developments to its fellow greenhouse robots through wireless communication, making it possible to learn from each other. What was the inspiration for your concept?
In my opinion, everything I have ever seen, read and heard is my inspiration. Every experience stays somewhere inside you, and if you are lucky, it will come out at the right moment. If I look back, this particular concept was definitely inspired by the book The Naked Sun from Isaac Asimov, the R2-D2 robot from Star Wars, an egg, insects, and whatever else I see every day.

How does your concept fit into this year’s competition theme “Designs for the next 90 years”?
Ninety years is very long time. Nearly four generations will pass through, every one of them with its own dreams, desires and possibilities. One long lasting dream is to reach the stars, but before that, we will have to reach Mars to see whether or not we can live without Earth. This is the time where my concept is relevant. At that time, we won’t think of machines as dumb boxes with buttons, but more as partners that obey our commands, but still have their own minds. They will be more autonomous and think and make decisions on their own. It may sound frightening, but it isn’t scarier than the first arrival of trains to the cities.

What are the main consumer benefits of your concept?
One thing you notice on Mars is the silence and serenity. That’s quite good for one week’s vacation in the countryside, but for modern people it’s very depressing to live in such a place for several months or years. Therefore, the main benefit of Le Petit Prince is that it’s not just a machine, but more like a pet or silent friend that you can speak to when you aren’t in the mood to talk to people. On top of that, it is a good gardener that grows any plant you want or need to bare life or just for its beauty.

Describe the consumer research behind your concept.
Well, I must admit it’s difficult to do any real research behind the concept since it’s designed for Mars. However, some of my friends said it’s cute (I always thought some of them have to be from Mars) and I consider their feedback sufficient.

What kind of materials would you use to build your concept?
Metallurgy, glass production and synthetic plastics have been used for a long time and will probably continue to be used in the next hundred years, so I didn’t feel an urge to use new yet unknown materials. Nanotechnology made giant leaps in the last few years and it will improve properties of material surfaces in the future, so they will be even harder and more resistant than anything we know today. More effective (even transparent) are solar panels, etc., but this evolution will not affect the fundamentals of my concept.

The Water Catcher concept is a flying rain catcher as well as a water purifier to address an easy and efficient water storage system. This automated device is designed to dispatch small flying ball shaped devices that are able to catch rain drops. These amazing flying balls return to the launching station after collecting the rain drops to purify the collected water to make them worth drinking. After purifying the water, the balls take the drinkable water directly to the user who wants to drink. The launching station is known as homing tray that can read finger prints to verify what additives needed to be add to the water to make it healthy for the drinker. Wanna Reach is an adjustable shelf system concept which is specially designed for the personal home use of paraplegic people. This innovative system comprises a remote control that is used to vertically move all the shelves of the system independently, thus allowing the user to reach as well as use them. This unit hangs on the wall for effortless access and thus provides more floor space to use for other purposes. To make the product durable and long lasting, the designer has used wood and aluminum extrusion. It can be set up as a single unit or more as per the requirement of the user.
