tubiQ is a modular concept that combines the dynamics and elegance of a boat with a refined living area on at least two levels. A tubiQ is made up of various interchangeable modules which can be fitted and connected to each other in many different ways. Within limits the tubiQ can be designed in full by the customer (length, height, interior design and the number and sizes of the rooms).

On demand the tubiQ can be equipped with state of the art electric engines and solar panels. This, combined with a water system that represents the finest level of liquid filtration, makes the tubiQ totally self supporting. tubiQ makes it possible to $enjoy your floating life anywhere you wish.

tubiQ is designed by Marcello Ligabue with Daniele Gibertoni, produced by Teknokat Marine S.r.l. and will be on sale from autumn 2009 in two basic versions: tubiQ48 (one deck) and the tubiQ59 (two decks). The tubiQs can be delivered fully furnished or casco with a price that varies from 240.000 € to 590.000 € ex VAT.

BeoTime can make every morning an enjoyable one with its discreet own chime or customizable wake up sounds from your favorite radio station, TV program or a piece of music and can be switched off at a preset time when you are leaving the house. It also includes a built-in sleep timer which is able to switch all the Bang & Olufsen apparatuses in the room to standby mode after a chosen time interval of up to 120 minutes. This feature is very much convenient for those who want to stay up late to watch TV, or fall asleep with a preferred music without worrying about turning off the music. Aside from the alarm and sleep timer features, you can use this gadget for basic functions of the bedroom loudspeaker, television or light control.

The ease of handling and operating of BeoTime is really noteworthy; you can hold it in one hand and can operate it with your thumb. The built-in tilt sensor shows the information and button functions modify orientation as per the BeoTime is held by the user.

BeoTime is a magnificently polished and anodized aluminum tube, with a trumpet-shaped button that protrudes from one end when you will activate the alarm by pressing it. The tube’s other end comprises a cover that conceals the battery chamber for three batteries that can last around one year. Two rubber feet ensure steady footing to BeoTime when lying on the table and the almost unseen magnetic wall brackets are used to mount it on the wall. The square navigation button along with three separate displays with dark text on a vivid background performs the navigation when setting the alarm time.

The elevator is actually an allegorical crane, placed right there where they belong. You can resemble the bridges that intersect into the museum with the arms of a crane, placed over the historic staircase and the boardroom, locking them in place. The Museum of Wellington City and Sea is known as ephemera to many of its exhibits and considering this fact the intrusion moved from solid to ephemeral. The administrative areas are represented by the solid part and the ephemeral symbolizes the exhibition areas of the museum. This project challenges the concept of ephemeral not only via temporality and movement but also through light, glass and reflection.

Yusuf Muhammad, was the winner of Living Room category and joint overall winner. His Yu Type design sits on the computer keyboard and allows ‘hunt and peck’ two fingered typists the opportunity to increase their speed and confidence. He is now thinking about developing the idea and hopes to include features like spell checking and predictive text to increase its appeal. Judges praised the way he addressed a social issue of an aging population within the urban context.

In response of this question “What next for your design?”, Yusuf says:

“I’m definitely going to set aside a fair chunk of the prize to develop it. There’s a lot of people who would benefit – 79% of people who use a keyboard hunt and peck, disproportionately older people and first time users, and even dyslexic users. I’m dyslexic and I would definitely benefit from a device like this.”

Dominic Hargreaves, was winner of the Garage category and a joint overall winner. His concept for a bike lock which sits at first storey level on the front of a building is designed to hoist bikes out of the reach of potential thieves. Along with Yusuf Muhammad, judges felt that Dominic’s design would benefit the most from money to develop the idea further.

In response of this question “How are you going to develop your design?”, Dominic says:

“The initial prototype was just for personal use. I would really like produce a public one, which would lead to a much better design. At a train station it would encourage commuting and free up the roads and the tube.”

Graeme Davies took the first prize in the Kitchen category. His Quicksnap icetray design solves the problem of dropping two ice cubes on the floor for every one you manage to get in the glass by creating an undercut to release individual ice cubes. Judge Lance Scott called it “An innovative solution to a very simple but annoying problem”. Graeme, who has a patent on the design, is looking to have it on sale by the summer.

In response of this question “Did you feel confident in your design?”, Graeme says:

“I think what’s really been good about it is that the design is really simple. People appreciate and get it straight away. That’s probably what made it stand out. The next stage will be tooling and hopefully we will get it in production by the summer.”
