The UK Design Council has recently commissioned a series of useful medical equipment concepts aiming to diminish the spread of germs. Under this initiative, the council has designed various products such as a easy to clean, durable, comfortable and cleverly usable porter’s chair that will definitely reduce the number of user ‘touchpoints’ where germs can be spread. Another product is an ‘intelligent’ mattress that can change color when it comes with the contact of body fluids. A patient bedside arrangement, featuring bedside storage along with an easy to clean over-bed table made of scratch-proof materials. The 21st century portable commode is another useful product that will eliminate the potential of spreading out the germs and can be cleaned easily. A smart canella is another helpful equipment by the council that can tell the staff when it is time to change the intravenous lines.

The main goal of these useful and innovative designs for hospital furniture and apparatuses is to help fight against healthcare associated infections such as MRSA and HCAIs. The prototypes have used cutting edge techniques in order to reshape the patient transport, bedside environment and usual medical equipments keeping easy clean in mind. The design also influences staff and patient behavior to lessen the probability of exposure to HCAIs.

Minimalist Bahia and Yu Furniture Design from Sequoia Studio

Sequoia Studio has released 2 new furniture designs : Bahia and Yu. Bahia, designed by Nicolas Melan, is a sunbath for outdoor use. Its structure is made of white Corian®, as the supporting foot which is filled with concrete. Bahia’s cushions have loose and washable covers made of Dralon®, filled with latex foam and available in different colors and original graphics. Yu, designed by Pascal Bardel, is an outdoor/indoor chair. Its structure is made of cast in one piece white polyethylene. Its cushion has a loose and washable cover made of cotton and is available in four colors: deep red, green apple, pearl gray and pink. It’s simple and minimalist. If you don’t like sophisticated design, then these new products might be perfect choice for you.

Saving Some Space with Contemporary Kitchen Design by Cancio

Contemporary kitchen designs by Cancio surely will take kitchen furniture to the next level. How many times has it happened that we miss the breakfast just because we need that early start? The Spanish designer range includes Radia, Duo and Wall which has been designed so that it can just be kept inside the kitchen. The adjustable furniture can accommodate up to three people so that you can have a nice chat with your family while cooking dinner. So if you are alone for tea or having dinner, just adjust the furniture as per your needs and see how you can just control space with this new kitchen design.

Radia has a unique opening system with it that can be easily enlarged or retracted when needed. For only a cup of tea, the smaller is the better one, but if you need more space than you must open the bigger part.

The Duo is the sleek one with just 38cm in width. It has a drawer inside that can hold many tiny articles lying here and there. Like radia, this can also accommodate three at once if extended.

The Wall is equipped with excellent rotation system that can be operated with a single hand. This is also available with colored glasses. But this is not the end. Very soon there are lot more to be displayed from the same Cancio collection.

Mobile Bar Furniture by Isay Winefield

Compact and moveable bar is pretty great idea isn’t it ? Designed by Isay Winefield, a Brazil based architect whose portfolio includes diverse projects right from set designs to furniture pieces, the mobile bar displays his signature style of clean and straight lines. The interesting part of the design is that the boxes are sized for specific functions, and all being strategically placed in the hidden drawers. So it’s minimum on occupied area and maximum on output. So what ever be the occasion, rest assured the mini bar will call the shots!
