Light is a concept device combining a map-printed paper and a cover of the same that provides essential guidelines during various disorders. Between the two papers, a paper-like battery and a series of LEDs that turns on when the two electrodes on the cover page’s backside are exposed. Therefore, when the user scrolls the device and put together the electrodes, the LEDs turns on and the entire paper-roll becomes a flashlight. Thus, ‘Light’ is a tool through which people can navigate a map in the darkness as well as use the scroll as a flashlight when the need arises.

Crescendo Flash Light is Specially Designed for Police or EMT

Crescendo is a flashlight specially designed for Public Services Members such as police or EMT. The ergonomic shape of this flashlight fits every hand sizes with the cut away grip that enables to hold the light securely. On the tail cap, there are two power switches enables two light modes, steady on and blink. On the barrel, there are 3 way color light controller, red for sneaky night vision, green for urgent activities such as color recognition and ultra bright white for general use. Branding is included into the body both the logo and name which is the full form of the grip as well.

This is a flashlight designed for those in public service. (police / emt’s) I spent a great deal of time researching the environment which this would be used along with the individuals it is designed for.

The flared head elegantly opens the lens for an elliptical beam of light. This profile is easily removed and placed into the holster without being snagged or stuck on the form. The elliptical pattern of the light matches human peripheral vision. By utilizing this shape, the user can be more aware of their surroundings with a smaller light. It takes full advantage of the natural night vision of the user and enhances it.

The flashlight has 2 power switches. One on the tailcap- and a 3-way on the barrel. The 3-way switch is used to select the light mode- Green, Red and super bright white. The green light is very useful in chaotic / emergency situations such as a car accident. The green light prevents night blindness while still permitting the user to identify colors which can be extremely important ( blood vs oil). The red light is less visible to others and used for a low profile stealth situation. The red light- and elliptical beam simply enhances the users natural night vision to give them more feedback on their surroundings and more control. The super bright white light is for common use of the flashlight- as well as situation control by creating night blindness for a person that may be a threat.

The 3-way power switch allows for immediate selection of the color mode without cycling. The switch on the tailcap controls the white light as a constant-on (press to click) or a ‘blink’ on for quick flashes controlled by the user.

The rubber grips are very important. They 1 keep the users hand off the metal which could be cold especially in the winter. The grip has a cut-away shape filled with thin strips. This shape makes less cumbersome for female users with smaller hands to have complete control of the tool. Also- at the end of the cut-away, there is a tapered lip. This lip provides a great security during the ‘cigar hold’ by providing the user a stop.

Due to the nature of limited advertising to these groups, the logo and name are permanently molded on the flashlight itself through the grip features. This creates a strong brand identity. The rubber is also receded from the very tip of the lens area, revealing more metal. This is so it may still be used as a weapon in emergencies, causing enough damage- or creating enough time so the user (police) can access a better more sophisticated weapon for the situation.

sunLight, a Scaleable Gadget that Generates Power from Solar Energy

The unique product called sunLight is a concept that utilizes the natural energy both for its usage and storage. It is one unit that has all the aspects in one device like generating, storing and consuming the electrical energy. The device designed for a long lifecycle with the same components and no replacement of spares, and even if, there is a need for replacement of spares due to any malfunction, the same can be done without much of an effort and cost. Thus it’s not just environment friendly but quite cost effective as well. All that sunLight needs to work is solar energy – you simply unfold it so that solar cell film is exposed to the sun and the energy will recharge the batteries. Received power can be used in different ways, as a flashlight or for loading up connected gadgets (mobile phones or music players, for example).

sunLight is scaleable. The standard configuration embeds 6 modules, each of which consists of an LED unit and 2 AAAA rechargeable batteries. Furthermore, one of modules holds a charge controller. For more or less luminance/capacity, the size of solar cell film and with it the number of LED-battery modules can be varied proportionally. A low number of components reduces the production costs; production of different sizes requires just one new tool for the base material. Except for the batteries, all parts could be made of recyclable polymers.

Discovery Bike with Detachable Front Light

Taiwan based designer Eric So has come with a Discovery bike, which was featured in the 12th International Bicycle Design Competition. The bike of course looks sleek and at the first look seems more like an exercise bike but it sure is one that is mobile. The frame design is based in a smooth diamond shaped structure, which has been incorporated innovatively in a detachable front light which also acts as a flashlight. The design enhances the functionality of the accessory maintaining its visual integration.

Bright-F : Let’s Hear Your Colors

We live in a very bright and colorful world around us. The creator has added color into every aspect of our lives. Life seems bland if it does not have its share of color. We use our eyes to distinguish colors. We differentiate a green leaf from a red flower. It is hard to imagine how a blind person identifies color? Especially when he lacks the tool that helps him in distinguishing the same? Understanding these challenges, designer Lifeng Yu has come up with a perfect solution. Called as the Bright–F, it distinguishes different colors and speaks out the same through a speaker i.e vision changed into sounds.

Bright-F has a program of practical teaching about colors which can help the blind to know the action of the colors, such as the way of composing garments of different colors, how to avoid clothing dyeing, and how the colors influent people’s motions. Flashlight can bring bright to most people in the dark except the blind people. However, the shape of Bright-F, which comes from the flashlight, can bring the brightness in colors to the blind. By touching the flashlight-like outside of this design, the blind people can easily associate the function of it. This can bring them more confidence about life.

Bright F on the first look looks like a normal pen torch, with an LED in front. The LED can light the object and make it show the original color. On the side walls is the battery power of the device. If all the four lights are glowing that means that the power is full.

On top are two buttons that seem like the turn on/off buttons in torchlight, but of the two the front button is the leaning system while the rear button is the one that is the identification system. On the back top portion is the speaker with the adjustable knob for volume control. How marvelous is it that a person who is blind, can really feel the color and can think and imagine the colors based on he sound it creates.
