Particle Mask to Reduce Chemical Exposure

The Particle Mask concept has been specially designed for commercial cleaners with the goal to reduce chemical exposure. A study has unveiled that more than 25% of people who are overexposed to chemicals at work such as cleaning sprays, have higher risk of developing occupational asthma. This mask features filtration compartment along with removable filter to purify the incoming air and exhaust the used air through airway opening. It features a resizable head strap that can be adjusted to fit all range of users. Both the outer and inner body of the mask is made of safe plastic and the transparent window allows other people to see the user’s lips.

tubiQ is a modular concept that combines the dynamics and elegance of a boat with a refined living area on at least two levels. A tubiQ is made up of various interchangeable modules which can be fitted and connected to each other in many different ways. Within limits the tubiQ can be designed in full by the customer (length, height, interior design and the number and sizes of the rooms).

AquaIris Portable Concept Water Purifier Device

Aqualris is a portable concept water purifier specially designed to provide safe and clean drinking water to people who are suffering under the effects of natural or man-made disasters. This device purifies the water through three steps – collection, filtration and neutralization of pathogens – aiming to let people drink safe water independently. After collecting the water, it passes through a removable filter, which is easily attached onto a Lanyard with printed instruction symbols. The filtered water then gravitationally pulled under a converter crystals layer that modulate the rays of Sun to a UVC frequency, which is able to hit every water molecule passing through with its high germicidal qualities. Finally, the outcome is clean, safe and fresh drinking water packed into an intelligent gadget.

A.R.C : Amphibious Rescue Craft

When you look at the A.R.C you will surely get amused with its massiveness. It is the kind of rescue vehicle that can ply on whatever terrain you put it on and effortlessly. The Amphibious Rescue Craft (A.R.C) helps deliver aid in times of natural calamities like floods and cyclone affected areas. All the other vehicles might not be ply during these times but the impact resistant tires of the ARC enable it to reach places with ease. There is less friction and a great output. In such times when time is crucial to the number of lives saved the A.R.C can come to the rescue.

Adam explanations about A.R.C :

The ‘A.R.C’ (Amphibious Rescue Craft) is a rugged all terrain vehicle that can be used to deliver vital aid and supplies anywhere required including flooded areas which are inaccessible to most other vehicles. Variable height ground clearance combined with large wheels and all terrain tyres provide excellent off road capabilities, whilst a boat hull and retractable wheels enable the A.R.C to plane at high speeds across water with minimal friction and uncompromised performance.

The high output diesel engine powers the wheels when on land and the water jet propulsion system when waterborne which can deliver up to one tonne of thrust. Once landed at its destination, the A.R.C uses an on-board crane (known as a ‘Multilift’ system) to rapidly deploy a supply unit containing anything from medicine or food to a water purification system. The water filtration units can be deployed at the site of a mass flood and used to purify contaminated flood water, returning it to life-saving drinking water which is otherwise scarce in flooded third world environments.

Supply units can also be opened to form mobile shelters for distribution of supplies or temporary living quarters/command centres etc. An unfoldable canopy marked with an ID symbol and number (e.g. Red Cross, Supply Unit number etc.) provides shelter from the rain and can be easily identified by passing rescue helicopters. The name A.R.C not only stands for Amphibious Rescue Craft but also identifies with Noah’s Arc which was believed to have been used as rescue / refuge craft during a mass flood.

Bushbunker : Australian Bushfire Safety Bunkers

Bushfires are being considered as one of the most dangerous natural disasters and keeping the terrible Australian Black Saturday bushfires during the last February in mind a concept survival option has been developed named Bushbunker. This concept is an architecturally designed safety bunker that is able to protect you when required. This concept bunker is comprehensively designed to endure people during the severe environmental situations that a massive bushfire may produce. This bunker contains a sitting arrangement for 3 to 4 person and adequate water preservation and food storage to keep the insiders alive for few days till the fire becomes under control.

Bushbunker represents a concept that has been designed from scratch specifically as a bushfire bunker, and comprehensively engineered to withstand the severe environmental conditions that a major bushfire produces. It has been designed for maximum survivor ability no matter the intensity or type of fire.

A series of two fire doors is used to separate the entrance/storage area from the bunkers main interior to provide a fail safe, and to create an air lock which protects against the infiltration of radiant heat through the first steel fire door. This is an extremely important design feature, as some of the most severe burns to Black Saturday fire survivors were caused by radiant heat.

To outfit the interior, the design makes use of standard off the shelf components such as steel fire doors, steel frames and sealing, bench seating, compressed air cylinders, battery powered electric lighting, storage shelving, water drums, UHF radio and EPIRB, and fire blankets and first aid. This in turn allows for flexibility in the design, and reduces costs.

The Bushbunker has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 6 adults for an extended period when equipped with compressed air cylinders. These air cylinders also have the additional feature of providing a positive internal air pressure inside the bunker making it impossible for noxious and poisonous outside gasses and smoke to enter.

Hanging above each seating area is a series of refillable standard 20 Litre water containers which provide a gravity fed source of clean water for drinking, cooling and first aid purposes.

Due to its standardized size and modular construction, and depending on the site conditions of a home, the Bushbunker can be specially incorporated into the structure of a house or home, free standing, set into an embankment or partially or totally buried underground.

Diabetes and Arsenic Jewelry by Leah Heiss

Leah Heiss, in collaboration with Nanotechnology Victoria, has developed a range of jewelry with therapeutic properties. Leah was NanoVic’s first artist in residence from September 2007-June 2008, supported by Arts Victoria and the Australian Network for Art and Technology.

Diabetes Jewelry
Diabetes jewelry is a neckpiece and rings for administering insulin through the skin via a nano-engineered patch. The Diabetes Neckpiece is a wearable applicator device to apply Nanotechnology Victoria’s NanoMAPs to the skin. NanoMAPs are small (10 x 2mm) circular discs which have an array of micro needles on their surface. They allow for pain-free delivery of insulin to the body, replacing syringes. The Diabetes rings are designed to keep the nano-engineered insulin patches against the skin once they have been applied.

Arsenic Jewelry + Water Vessels
Leah also developed a neckpiece and water vessel for purifying water of arsenic and other contaminants. The neck piece is a receptacle that carries mesoporous iron oxide (Fe2O3) which can remove arsenic from drinking water. The Arsenic Water Vessel is used in conjunction with the neck piece and contains specialized filtration devices to ensure that the purified water is safe to drink. The jewelry and water vessels are designed for people in transit in countries where arsenic is prevalent in found water, such as India + Bangladesh.

The Arsenic and Diabetes projects were both exhibited as part of Liminal, an exhibition at RMIT Gallery in November 2008; in.tangible.scape.s in Belgium; and will be on display at the Levitas exhibition at Gallery fortyfive downstairs from 11-21 March 2009.
