The RollTop is a flexible notebook concept that can be folded like a roll of paper allowing the user ultimate convenience of carrying and storing it even in a congested place. It features a 17” flat-screen OLED display when fully rolled out with the multi-touch facility that will offer the ease and functionality of that of an iPhone. Also, when required, it can be folded into a 13” smart tablet pc. Aside from the touch-screen controlling, it features full fledged keyboard like conventional notebooks with which convenient typing can be performed. When folded, this compact notebook takes the size of a water carrier and can easily be hanged over the shoulder with a hanging belt.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 with 8.1 Megapixel Camera is Lighter Than X1

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 with its 3.2” touchscreen has been officially unveiled after its sleek-looking predecessor X1. If you consider dimensions, the latest X2 is close to its previous version; however, it’s lighter than the X1. The X2 features a redesigned keypad just like that of a netbook and reveals by sliding out the upper portion. The 8.1 megapixel camera is one of the major upgrades of X2. Moleculair 3D Food Printer to Provoke Innovative Ideas of Cooking

The Moléculaire concept is actually a marriage of science and cooking, which is actually a 3D molecular food printer. This device is inspired by chefs who painstakingly and scientifically experiment with food to surprise the guests and provoke innovative ideas of cooking. The Moléculaire simplifies the existing hectic, tough and time consuming process of food experiment with this Computer Numerical Control (CNC) food printer for both domestic and professional kitchens. This gadget works with a layer by layer printing method using small elements from diverse ingredients, whilst providing accuracy, simplicity, repeatability and great tasting food. Interview with Nico :

What was the inspiration for your concept?
The inspiration was the experimental approach to molecular cooking. Even after several decades of molecular cuisine, it still seems to be an exclusive game for specialists. So it became my main goal to bring some of the fantastic possibilities and ideas of molecular cooking to all ambitious cooks with an easy to use, affordable appliance.

How does your concept fit into this year’s competition theme “Designs for the next 90 years”?
I think the idea of molecular cooking is forward-looking, but the procedures and methods of preparing molecular dishes are still conventional. I would like to change this with my concept. At first, the idea of printing food seems to be something straight out of a science-fiction movie, but on second thought it is not unrealistic at all. I even think that Moléculaire could be the future kitchen tool that opens up possibilities for food-makers interested in molecular cooking.

What are the main consumer benefits of your concept?
Moléculaire is a futuristic kitchen appliance that offers several new possibilities to professional chefs as well as home users. It’s based on a layer-by-layer printing technique that arranges small particles from a set of ingredients. Within minutes, it prints out three-dimensional desserts, complex structures, shapes for molecular dishes, and patterns for decorating a meal. In addition, it’s easy to use. You simply insert a blister pack into the reservoir, place Moléculaire on top of a plate, and press the start button. Users can also create their own recipes with special software and their own ingredients. Ambitious users can download recipes and share them with other users in an online community.

Describe the consumer research behind your concept.
I conducted interviews with chefs and did a lot of research on the Internet. These approaches helped me to understand users’ interests, concerns, wishes, needs and desires. The outcome shaped my initial ideas and helped them grow. The most difficult thing about designing for the future is predicting the possible social and technological developments (their direction and speed). Therefore, it was very useful to read reports like sociological studies about cooking and future scenarios about the development of new technologies.

What kind of materials would you use to build your concept?
For my concept, I would use polycarbonate as the main material. I plan on applying this material in three different variations, each providing the right characteristics for the different parts of my design. Transparent polycarbonate can be used for the window, black tinted for the lid/display, and white for the body. The robotic printer arm and head could be made from aluminum. A blue (O)LED backlight accentuates the processes inside the printer.

Who is your favorite designer?
I don‘t have a favorite designer.

What are your career goals?
After I graduate in 2010, I want to gain more professional experience in a product-design company. In the long term, I want to further develop my conceptual and strategic skills and step into product-related design management.

Switchital Clock Design with Unique Time Changing Manner

The Switchital Clock features a digital screen where letters for showing timing are formed with small metal bars attached to the surface with small magnets underneath. The clock shows only hour and minute, it doesn’t show seconds because of its unique time changing manner. When a minute is over, the individual pats start to move, some gets disappeared and then integrates in a specific place that is required to show the next minute. This movement is done by the magnets that starts pulling the bars to the next position where the need to be placed to show the next minute.

Ondo Music Editing Phone Concept : Play It, Mix It, Rock Out To It !

The Onyx; this was the model mobile phone which took the more traditional keypad to a whole new level by introducing the touch screen edge. With just a finger or a joystick you could click your way to revelation. But even with the pomp and color that Synaptics and Pilotfish, who are interface developers and industrial studio designers respectively, launched Onyx, it still wasn’t good enough to get sold.

But it may have become the harbinger of future mobile phone concept developments. With Pilotfish, a new development in the concept of phone music editing was born. The Ondo combines the touch screen ability with a back that lithely twists and turns to allow for fast and comprehensive editing of desired music on the phone.

This new concept according to Pilotfish is a bid to lessen the burden of mobile phone manipulation especially for those who find it hard to even understand the features and also make music enthusiasts happy. Of course we can not conclusively judge the efficiency of this designed concept but the need for a classy easy to use music editor has always been in the heart of mobile phone music lovers who want a calling phone with an Ipod like concept among its features.

MUNICH, Germany – April 20, 2009 — Pilotfish, a progressive industrial design and product development studio based in Munich, Amsterdam and Taipei, today introduced Ondo, a dedicated music editing phone concept. The Ondo concept enables OEMs to visualize a new form of user interaction for mobile phones. User The target user for “Ondo” is the music enthusiast who seeks to interactively capture and edit sounds. Going beyond software-based solutions of other products, it is specifically designed to effectively collect pure sounds and is specially constructed to create a tactile sound editing experience.

Music Editing
Made from form-sensitive flexible materials, “Ondo” allows the user to modify recorded sounds by physically twisting and bending the device. Like a guitarist pulling on a whammy bar, users can feel and hear the musical effects as they create them.

Jamming
Another innovative feature of “Ondo” are the three removable display ”sticks”. In their normal state, the “sticks” act as a unified touch display for the mobile device. When removed, each can be separately clipped onto a musical instrument or person to capture live sound. Like a portable recording studio, “Ondo” makes mixing tracks easy, because each “stick” picks up isolated sounds from each individual instrument. The recordings can be immediately sent via MMS (Multimedia Messaging) around the globe allowing musicians at different geographical locations to jam together.

Mixing
In party mode, “Ondo” works as a digital mixer enabling the user to create seamless transitions between songs. This is made easy with interactive touch functions combined with integrated software support.

Market Opportunities
The advantage of such a device is that a range of services and accessories can accompany it in order to enhance the sound capturing and editing experience. From a business perspective, most of the players in the mobile world can benefit: for example, content creators – by providing sound libraries or musical games for download; operators – by facilitating increased user interaction; and device manufacturers – by producing accessories such as input devices, Bluetooth instruments, etc.

This laptop includes bar-code reader, solar charge cells and a bracelet for controlling blood pressure, pulse, and many more. HP Nobag has touch sensor with hard OLED technology, ideal for those who don’t like to carry big bags for laptops. HP Fitness serves the weight control purpose most, also comprises a similar bracelet to keep record of work out sessions. HP Make-up has a button that changes the screen to a mirror and has an on-nail printing device. HP Mama will allow parents to monitor their children with two Bluetooth cameras. SoulArc Skateboard : A Revolutionary Design in Skateboard

In a mood to maneuver the streets, then the new SoulArc Board is sure something that will help you doing the same. Though at the first glance it looks like a normal skateboard, but it has a rigid top while the below-deck composite spring provides the action and the feeling one gets is that of surfing. Designed by Mitch Mulder, along with Salvaore Vilardi, the whole design is dependent on the performance spring, which has undergone various adjustments like size, shape and material selection etc. The overall ride is quite smooth and unmatched to give that surfing experience. Interactive Digital Cooking Aid with USB Stick and Wi-Fi

Getting ready to impress that cute new join in office by inviting him for some home made dinner? Oops but guess you forgot something? You don’t know how to cook! Now what, how to save the embarrassment and make a good impression? Don’t worry Hannah Plevin is your guardian angel. She has designed what she calls as Interactive Digital Cooking Aid.

This is “recipe made easy” but with no referral recipe book to look from! The design consists of a wall mounted foldable device with a fully adjustable removable screen and a scale. The scale has a capacity of handling 2 kg portions. Users can download the recipe from the internet and uploads it on to the portable screen using the USB stick or Wi-Fi. The touch screen interface is used to access the stored recipes. Also one can use the meal planning functions, the interactive cooking mode with step by step visual instructions and weighing scales. Thus, it ensures healthy and measured cooking.

Of course apart from saving you the embarrassment the device also encourages healthy eating and no wastage. Not just that, it also helps you to maintain that calorie conscious diet you always wanted to follow. It is interactive, easy to use, fun and friendly and does not occupy much space. So go ahead and cook confidently!
