An exceptional mechanism created by Mathias Buttet – founder of Confrérie Horlogère – for the Only Watch 09 auction: an event that takes place every two years and is aimed at raising funds to help children affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Touched by the devastating effects of this disease, Mathias Buttet has developed a Vertical tourbillon watch which features a hand-wound mechanical movement able to make the time last longer for those who don’t have much of it. Moreover, the prototype developed has been enriched with a further function allowing users to shorten the time if they so wish.

Stone is common element that is found in creek. Stone and water always exist together. Stone is hard and strong; water is soft and transformable. Stone’s strong nature acts as a counterbalance to water softness. They are good partner in the nature world.

Creek is a platform for water stream to move into different ways. Without a large rock or stone blocked in the creek, the water stream move in smooth, regular and strong. When some rocks or stones are in the creek, the water flow is blocked. Then, it moves along the side of rocks. It moves in irregular and weak.

To apply this idea to develop the concept of the tap, the Dish of the tap represents the creek. When stone is pulled up, the water flows straight. When stone is pushed down, the water flows is blocked and spreads along the side of stone.

The Stone is act as “on and off” function. When the Stone turns anti-clockwise, it releases water. The Dish is water temperature control. When it turns anti-clockwise, it changes hot water. When it turns clockwise, it changes cold water.

Marionette boys control the vertical wires attached to the clock’s hand by winding and unwinding the crank. The vertical wiring is controlled by the stepper motor and the function of its module is to calculate the vertical wire’s length to a high level of accuracy. Display of time is done by calculating the vertical wire length and the unicycle’s position to their appropriate figure. The unicycle, on which the Marionette boys ride, is made of “Mycom”, which runs by the stepper motors and let the Marionette boys stay put. The Marionette boys are equipped with rechargeable and interchangeable battery, kept in a backpack on their backs for better balance and this unique design prevents the ride of the boys from falling off, even when they are positioned in an angle.

Marionette clock forms a kind of tiny circus show with two moving Marionette boys back and forth on a unicycle to show the time which certainly will create an artistic sensation.

BeoTime can make every morning an enjoyable one with its discreet own chime or customizable wake up sounds from your favorite radio station, TV program or a piece of music and can be switched off at a preset time when you are leaving the house. It also includes a built-in sleep timer which is able to switch all the Bang & Olufsen apparatuses in the room to standby mode after a chosen time interval of up to 120 minutes. This feature is very much convenient for those who want to stay up late to watch TV, or fall asleep with a preferred music without worrying about turning off the music. Aside from the alarm and sleep timer features, you can use this gadget for basic functions of the bedroom loudspeaker, television or light control.

The ease of handling and operating of BeoTime is really noteworthy; you can hold it in one hand and can operate it with your thumb. The built-in tilt sensor shows the information and button functions modify orientation as per the BeoTime is held by the user.

BeoTime is a magnificently polished and anodized aluminum tube, with a trumpet-shaped button that protrudes from one end when you will activate the alarm by pressing it. The tube’s other end comprises a cover that conceals the battery chamber for three batteries that can last around one year. Two rubber feet ensure steady footing to BeoTime when lying on the table and the almost unseen magnetic wall brackets are used to mount it on the wall. The square navigation button along with three separate displays with dark text on a vivid background performs the navigation when setting the alarm time.

This phone includes a giant, bright, flexible and energy-saving OLED screen which is the only way of interacting and can independently produce required buttons and wipers for operating a program. Aside from that, the ergonomic shape of that phone allows to place the phone comfortably over a palm. There is a foldable stand at the back surface of the phone that can be used to place it as a lucrative alarm clock or can be used as an elegant lamp using the brightness of the OLED screen.

This project was completed in the fall of 2008 under the direction of David Ruy and Karel Klein of RuyKlein. The intention was to develop sensitivities to surface conditions. The work included physical and digital modeling experiments in cloth. The site is a redevelopment of the Queens Museum at the World’s Fair site in Queens, New York. The museum contains a permanent display of a very large-scale model of New York City’s five boroughs.

Unexpectedly the physical modeling of the cloth produced a most interesting and unintended result. This unexpected result however, provided a fantastic jumping off point for digital exploration. By raising the program off the ground level a public space is created under the building that offers access round the clock, offering space for events even when the museum is closed.

A structural lattice provides ample interior spaces while creating a process that significantly simplifies construction. A plastic ‘bladder’ is inflated inside the structural lattice, then a layer of Concrete Canvass is laid on top, sprayed with water, and sets on the outside of the lattice.

As for the interior, I wanted to create a sense of corporeality. To accomplish this I have taken the top lines of the interior of the shell and pulled them out in a manner that creates a landscape that must be negotiated in three dimensions. The interior walls would be constructed out of stacked glass, creating translucent divisions of the rooms.

Alexey words about his design:
A conceptual project for a wristwatch, Endlesstime has been designed in the form of the Möbius band to symbolise the infinite (or endless) quality of time.

Endlesstime is a continuous band without knobs and buttons. It does not require the tuning of time or the changing of batteries. A receiving device in the clock face receives a satellite signal and automatically tunes the watch to match the time in the current time zone. The battery is automatically charged using the kinetic energy made by movement.

The Rim is a unique timepiece. The hour and minute hands have been positioned on the outer edge of the clock face rather than the center, making it a distinctive looking product that imbues style on any space. It minimalist design sits well in all environments, from office space to living rooms or kitchen walls.
